What to Look For When Purchasing Wakeboard Gloves

Wakeboarding is a great sport that requires the use of protective gear, like gloves. If you don’t have gloves, you will regret hitting the water without them. Protecting your hands is very important while participating in this sport, and just any kind of sports glove will not serve you well. Regular gloves and Wakeboard gloves are very different and you need to know what to look for when purchasing the right pair.

Some key features that are a must are Velcro straps, double backed palm, and pre-curved fingers. Some additional features that are being offered with gloves today are the use of a new material called Amara. This polyurethane fabric has the feel of leather and look of neoprene. Not only will it help with your grip, it is also very strong. This new material is difficult to tear or rip a hole in, and it is made to with stand the abuses of everyday use. Aging or becoming worn out is not a problem for this material either, so one pair will last you for quite some time and still look brand new.

Also, some gloves offer sticky bumps that will help maintain a firm grasp on the bar while boarding. These are usually applied at the fingers and tend to increase your ability to grasp better, even while wet. Also, on the inside, the palm of the gloves sometimes will have the feel of a brand new baseball glove. This can make for an awkward feeling glove. If you happen to dislike this type of glove there are some gloves on the market that are made with a soft, comfortable palm, and these do not require any needed break-in time.

The design of the glove is very important, because you want them to fit snugly on your hands. If the gloves are not a proper fit you could possibly suffer injury to your fingers or hands. Not to mention the fact you won’t be able to enjoy your time on the water if you are constantly messing with your gloves. Choosing a glove with Velcro straps on the back of the hand will help prevent your gloves from slipping off. You will be able to find gloves with either two straps or one wide strap, either choice provides a good fit.

Once you have looked at a few pairs and have tried some on, you will be able to make the decision as to what pair will best suite your hands. The cost of the gloves can range anywhere from $50 to $75, which is a good price for an investment that is going to protect your hands. Also note that Wakeboard gloves are sometimes called Water ski gloves.
