Lower limb fasciotomy – Compartment syndrome

Compartment syndrome is the compression of nerves, blood vessels, and muscle inside a closed space (compartment) within the body. This leads to tissue death This is a 24 years old patient with history of a traumatic fracture of his femur, he was transferred from another hospital and when he arrived to our hospital in Quito-Ecuador his distal pulses were almost gone, capillary filling very slow and lots of pain. We decided to perform a bilateral fasciotomy and the results were positive. you can observe how the intra-compartimental pressure push the muscles out the incisions. After 45 minutes the patient recovered his blood flow my advice perform a big fasiotomy and solve it later using skin grafts or by a secondary closure, DONT WAIT until is too late… ps; Sorry the quality it was filmed using a mobile device
