It is a fact hypertension can occur simply because a good diet has not been followed. Therefore, it makes sense that a person could lower his/her blood pressure simply by following a good diet. A good diet for taking care of problems with hypertension is not very different from what most nutritionists would describe as just a plain good diet.
Though you would normally think there would be just one type of diet you would need for treating hypertension, in fact, this may not be true. The reason for this is because many times the number one contributing factor to the problem is being overweight. If overweight is the sole problem, it follows that losing weight is the cure.
Is it the Weight Factor?
When this is the case, any diet that helps the person lose weight would be an appropriate diet. However, when being overweight is not the sole cause, a diet can still be of great benefit but it must be one conducive to lowering blood pressure.
Such a diet would be one that is low in fats, high in fiber, includes fruits and vegetables and is low in sodium. In a nutshell, this would be a hypertension diet. If it is possible to add exercise to the daily routine this should also be done. There is virtually no limit to the benefits one could gain simply by adding exercise to his/her lifestyle.
No Pain No Gain Not True!
However, it is very important you know exercise will do you more good than harm before you begin doing it. Of course, the only way you’re going to know this for certain is to seek the advice of your doctor. Naturally, it is a very important to start an exercise program slowly and build up the amount of exercise you’re doing at a relatively slow pace.
It has been proven that walking can be as beneficial as jogging. It has also been proven that no expensive equipment is needed to start an exercise routine. Of course, when you live in an area where very cold weather, and snow is common; it is wise to have some means whereby you know you could do exercises in your home. Sometimes all that is needed is a CD you can throw in your CD player and follow along.
The bottom line is a good blood pressure reading can be achieved without taking drastic measures and simply making a few minor lifestyle changes. However, there are times when even this will not do the trick. At this time your doctor will prescribe a blood pressure medication. Believe me, as I know from experience, this is not the end of the world. You can live a perfectly normal life while being on blood pressure medication.
