High blood pressure, also known as hypertension, is a condition, which increases the chances of developing many diseases and other conditions. If left untreated, high blood pressure can lead to prolonged illnesses and even death. Hypertension is a leading cause of strokes, heart attacks, aneurysms, heart failure and chronic renal failure.
There are essentially two forms of hypertension; primary and secondary. Primary hypertension is when doctors cannot pinpoint how or why a patient is suffering from the condition. Secondary hypertension is when there are outside factors or secondary factors that cause the increased levels of high blood pressure.
There are a handful of conditions that aid in the development of high blood pressure. They range from sleep apnea, obesity, high sodium intake, age, or genetics. All of these conditions or states can cause hypertension if not properly controlled. Uncontrollable conditions, such as age and genetics can obviously not be avoided. But, there are many alternatives to pre-empting or preventing high blood pressure; such as, weight loss, reducing sugar intake, reducing sodium intake, eating more fruits and vegetables, discontinuing the use of tobacco and alcohol products, and most importantly reducing stress.
Those who suffer from high blood pressure have symptoms of insomnia, fatigue, dizziness, blurred vision, facial flushing and headaches; although, not all of these symptoms, or side effects, occur at the same time for a for most people. When exhibiting any of theses symptoms, a person can get tested for High blood during a simple and routine physical examination with a doctor.
High blood pressure, if diagnosed, can be controlled and doesn’t have to take over one’s life. If a patient is diagnosed but does not take care of the issue then the outcome could possibly become deadly. High blood pressure doesn’t always lead to heart attacks or strokes but the probability is
higher for a heart attack or stroke if the condition is not taken care of properly.
