The essential functioning of the body’s organs is dependent on the reception and maintenance of CoQ10 so that organs can be provided with the energy they need. It has been found that heart disease sufferers have a much lower incident of CoQ10 in their bodies, and increasing their dose has a highly beneficial effect, reducing the accumulation of fatty acids in the heart muscle and improving the conversion of those fatty acids into energy (called ATP). But did you know that CoQ10 also has been linked with cancer prevention and alleviation? CoQ10 was discovered in 1957.
The alternative name for Coenzyme Q10 is ubiquinone, a derivative of the word ubiquitous, which means everywhere. This is because CoQ10 is found in every cell of the body. This enzyme is responsible for energy production in the mitochondria, providing energy for every body process. It is also an antioxidant, helping to quell the free radicals in the body that are responsible for cell mutation and death; essential in disease prevention and in slowing down the ageing process. We need all the natural help we can get in this over processed, additive driven, polluted world in fighting the consequent free radicals which form in our bodies alongside our unhealthy lifestyles. None of the Egyptian mummies, or Neanderthal man studies have found any sign of cancer, and tumours were only described from as recently as 200 years ago, and even they were nasal tumours (from snuff) and scrotal cancer in chimney sweeps. Breast and other cancer operations have only been described from the 17th century onwards. Cancer is directly related to the levels of CoQ10 in your body. In fact one of the indicators of cancer is low levels in the blood.
Clinical studies and anecdotal reports by doctors for over 40 years have given a huge database of COQ10 information. With breast cancer, for instance, there have been several cases reported by doctors where cancer remission and even disappearance occurred after supplementing with large doses of CoQ10 ยท
One patient, 44yrs old, with both breasts removed (in 1992), (after extensive treatment with anti-cancer drugs, including tamoxifen ) was found to have metastases in her liver. She was given a 390mg CoQ10 dose. Three years later, she was still in excellent health. In 1990, a 49yr old woman had her right breast removed. But unfortunately a year later it re-occurred on her chest wall, which meant it was surgically impossible to remove, so she was given conventional x ray treatment. This however did not stop the disease from progressing, She was given 90mgs of CoQ10 which was increased to 390mg. Three years later, she was still in excellent health A lumpectomy was carried out on a 75yr old woman. Unfortunately, though, the procedure had cut through cancer tissue, so a full mastectomy was given. Before the mastectomy she was taking 90mg of CoQ10, a year later the dose was increased to 390mg. Three years later – she was still in excellent health!
So why is CoQ10 not prescribed as medication? It”s simple. It is not a drug (and you can’t patent a vitamin), so there is no financial gain in promoting it.
Vitamins, enzymes, antioxidants all have a role to play in maintaining health. Today’s western society seems bent on disrupting it. As these maladies develop we look for remedies, but there is no greater remedy than nature. Although it can be gained from food sources: meats such as beef or chicken, nuts and seeds such as peanuts and sesame seeds, and vegetables such as broccoli or cauliflower, it is quite likely that due to over processing and the use of additives and pesticides that the natural levels are reduced. So to maintain your health be sure to supplement. If disease has already occurred, alongside your conventional therapy supplement naturally to enhance your body’s essential processes and thus its ability to fight disease, infection, or even the ageing process.
n.b. as it is fat soluble, it needs to be in a soft gel formulation for proper absorption.
