Controlling High Blood Pressure is in Your Hands

High blood pressure is the precursor to heart disease, but controlling high blood pressure lies within our own hands. Although high blood pressure and heart disease are serious business, controlling high blood pressure is not impossible. The following steps can help you either prevent it or control it once you do have it.

1. Change to a low fat diet
2. Get the right kind of exercise
3. Stop smoking
4. Stop drinking too much

Most people are not aware they have high blood pressure because there are no symptoms in the early stages. Only about half who know they have it are taking it seriously and undergoing treatment, and only about half who are undergoing treatment have their blood pressure under control.

Probably the best way to lower high blood pressure is by exercising. Exercising combats the build up of plaque and lowers blood pressure. A sedentary lifestyle does exactly the opposite and elevates high blood pressure.
